At Blessed Sacrament School we use the ‘Charanga Music School’ scheme of work which supports all of the requirements of the National Curriculum and gives children access to a wide range of musical concepts and experiences. The ‘Charanga Musical School’ Scheme provides teachers with week-by-week lesson support for each year group in the school. It provides lesson plans, assessment, clear progression, and engaging and exciting resources to support every lesson.
Pupils in Year 3 are also given the opportunity to recorder lessons from a specialist teacher throughout the year.
Pupils in Year 5 and 6 are given the opportunity to learn a variety of stringed instruments on an individual basis or in small groups delivered by peripatetic teachers from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Our String Club is formed of a group of pupils who receive weekly lessons in school on the violin, viola, cello and double bass, giving them exposure to Classical music. Students from String Club are given opportunities to earn Copper and Bronze ABRSM Music Medals and complete their Discover Arts Award.
